Social Justice Work in Baltimore
Visit my website: Fight the New Jim Crow
In Fall 2015 I have dedicated a semester of research through an intro to African American Studies course called, "Baltimore Uprisings." I committed to researching mass incarceration, recidivism, and the non-profit industrial complex to help activist groups in Baltimore throughout her semester at Emory. My research directly benefited organizations focused on Baltimore, specifically "Leaders for a Beautiful Struggle" and "Dare to be King". I then followed up by visitng churches, schools, healthcare providers, community hall meetings, and activist group headquarters in Sandtown Winchester Baltimore to get a better perspective of how to use my research to help organizations create change.

MERGE: Multi Ethnic Racial Group At Emory
|
This is my documentary 'Multi Racial on campus'. I conducted campus wide interviews for a research study for Emory University's OMPS (Office of Multicultural Programs and Services) for a group I facilitate called 'MERGE'. This documentary focuses on the history of multi-racial identity and how social networks in campus life affect how we identify ourselves.

NaVosha Copeland a rising senior at Emory University created a documentary to explore the closing of the Black Student Alliance house on Emory's campus in 2010-2011. Her research began as an exploration to see if Emory had a safe space for black students on campus. I have collaborated a lot with NaVosha as I have been creating my documentary, and this documentary greatly reflects the vast knowledge and perspectives that she has gathered about the black community at Emory.
